Library Minute: O’Reilly Books Online

If you have a little extra time this summer and want to boost your technology skills, try O’Reilly Books Online. O’Reilly was founded in 1978 by Tim O’Reilly as a technical writing and consulting firm and has become one of the industry’s leading providers of computing and programming resources. They later expanded into conferences, online learning sites, coined the Web 2.0 phrase, became leaders in the open source movement, and were early proponents of “make” and maker spaces. You’ll probably best recognize them by the animal woodcuts featured on their book covers.

O’Reilly Books Online features full, electronic copies of their books and includes titles from other publishers as well. There’s an O’Reilly Answers section that will search within all of their resources and return highlighted answers with the ability to read further. The site also features accompanying instructional videos, learning paths, and the ability to download their iOS or Android app. You can sign into the app using your UR single sign-on to continue learning while on your mobile device.

Regardless of whether you spend time learning or just relaxing, have a happy and safe summer from your friends at Boatwright and Parsons Music Libraries!
