October 2021 Construction Update

Below are a list of items that have either been completed or will continue to be worked on through the completion date of May 2022.

On Basement Level 2 (B2) August through October 2021

  • Replacing HVAC boxes and ductwork (Facilities installed our new building chiller in January)
  • Replaced all fluorescent lighting with LED
  • Replaced carpet
  • New paint
  • New furniture and study carrels. 
  • Add dehumidifiers to the HVAC system
  • Add sprinkler/fire suppression system
  • The former B26 Computer lab is being remodeled to become an academic testing center.
  • Print book and print journal collections consolidated on level B2

On Basement Level 1 (B1) October 2021 through May 2022

  • Replacing HVAC boxes and ductwork (Facilities installed our new building chiller in January)
  • Replacing all fluorescent lighting with LED
  • Replacing carpet
  • New paint
  • New furniture
  • Add dehumidifiers to the HVAC system
  • Add sprinkler/fire suppression system
  • Removal of compact shelving units (books on level B1 relocated to level B2)
  • Construction of new Book Arts Studio space.
  • Expansion of the Galvin Rare Book Room. We will create more reading/research space outside our vault for users of the collection
  • Construction of an office suite for the Rare Books, Special Collections, and Book Arts staff
  • Bathroom remodeling
  • Construction of a classroom for joint use by Rare Books and Special Collections staff and University Museums
  • Construction of an interior entrance to the Lora Robins Gallery.
