On behalf of the Jackson Award Selection Committee (myself, Mavis Brown – Education, and Tom Zylkin – Economics), I’m pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s James W. Jackson Award for Excellence in Library Research in the Social Sciences is Ellie Owen, WC ’20, for her paper, “Poverty Alleviation in Guatemala: The Complementary Effects of Aid and Remittances.” Ellie’s paper was nominated by Dr. Jenny Pribble, Political Science and Global Studies.
Ellie will receive an award prize of $1000 and a certificate of recognition, and her name will be added to the James W. Jackson Award plaque, which has hung in the lobby of Boatwright Library since 1984. We will also be scheduling a Zoom meeting soon where we can “present” the award to her and get a photo (screenshot) for the library website.
We were happy to have a very strong field this year and it was difficult to choose just one winner. Congratulations to Ellie!
